Product Description, Applications Added to the concrete mix at the time of batching, Penetron® Admix consists of Portland cement, very fine treated silica sand and various active, proprietary chemicals. These active chemicals react with the moisture in fresh concrete and the by-products of cement hydration to cause a catalytic reaction, which generates an insoluble crystalline formation throughout the pores and capillary tracts of the concrete. Concrete therefore becomes permanently sealed against the penetration of water or liquids from any direction. The concrete is also protected from deterioration due to harsh environmental conditions. Penetron Admix is recommended for use in: - Reservoirs
- Sewage and water treatment plants
- Secondary containment structures
- Tunnels and subway systems
- Underground vaults
- Foundations
- Parking structures
- Swimming pools
- Precast components
Features, Advantages - Resists extreme hydrostatic pressure from either positive or negative surface of the concrete slab
- Becomes an integral part of the substrate
- Highly resistant to aggressive chemicals
- Can seal hairline cracks up to 1/64" (0.40 mm)
- Allows concrete to breathe
- Nontoxic – EPA and NSF approved
- Less costly to apply than most other methods
- Permanent – Added to the concrete at time of batching and therefore not subject to climatic restraints
- Increases flexibility in construction scheduling; added to concrete at time of batching so it does not impact construction schedule
- Recommended for use in concrete design mixes for cold climate applications
- Protects against the effects of freeze/thaw cycling
- Protects embedded steel from the effects of corrosion
- Protects concrete from the effects of carbonation and the intrusion of harmful liquid borne materials
Properties, Performance - Dosage rate – 1% of cement by weight
- Shelf life – 12 months in unopened, undamaged bags
- Packing – 40 lb (18 kg) bags, 55 lb (25 kg) pails. Customized packaging is available for large projects
- Conforms to ASTM C39, DIN 1048, U.S. Army Corp of Engineers CRD-C-48-73, NSF 61, BS 6920, Radiation resistance USA standard and ASTM C267
Penetron crystalline waterproofing is a unique blend of active chemicals designed to waterproof concrete internally. It can be mixed with fresh concrete or applied through a carrier surface coat to existing concrete from either the positive or negative sides. A permanent solution that remains dormant in the concrete, it will reactivate in the presence of moisture to seal hairline cracks and prevent future moisture penetration. It reduces corrosion and chemical attack and freeze-thaw and scaling damage. Some ideal uses are water containment structures, marine environments, manholes, tunnels, bridges, roads, wastewater and water treatment plants. Available as an Admix for ready-mix concrete as well as in slurry, dry-shake and repair mortar forms. NSF 61 certified for potable water applications. |
